In this GIS blog I will be posting maps which I have prepared. Click on the maps to view a larger image. Sometimes you may have to click a second time on the map in order to bring the wording more into focus.

Week 4: Projections of Florida

This was a very time consuming map making session. I spent  many hours this past week building and rebuilding these maps! Through the course of this experience I learned how to use the "Project" Tool to create new datasets from others, and add the reprojected layer to my Arcmap document. I learned about different types of geographic coordinate systems. Also, the coordinate system from a data source must be
defined and correct before ArcMap can project it. In the above three projected maps of Florida the coordinate systems used were Albers Conical Equal Area, NAD 1983 UTM Zone16N, and the NAD 1983HARN State Plane Florida FIPS 0903 Feet. The system most used by the U.S. federal, state, and local governments for large scale mapping is the State Plane Coordinate System.
The hardest part of this assignment was remembering how to use the "symbology" and "labels" tabs in the "Layer Properties" box to identify and display the specified counties with their corresponding areas.
