Pam's GIS Maps

In this GIS blog I will be posting maps which I have prepared. Click on the maps to view a larger image. Sometimes you may have to click a second time on the map in order to bring the wording more into focus.

Week 10: Geospatial Analysis of Critical Infrastructures

Deliverable 1: Buffer Zones Created for Critical Infrastructures of  NORAD

In developing this map, we had to bring in group layers made during week 9 lab and then create a buffer zone around NORAD and the Cheyenne Mountain Heliport. It wasn't too complicated. The instructions were very clear.

Deliverable 2: Secure Ingress and Egress Routes Around Critical Infrastructure

This map was created to show the Cheyenne Mountain Heliport ingress / egress points along the local roads. I could not decide whether I should change the labels for the local roads in the legend. These are CFCC descriptions for the roads.

Deliverable 3: NORAD Entrance Line of Site Analysis

This map was created to show the surveillance area around the NORAD entrance. I believe the green lines show the areas which can be seen from the entrance, and the red lines show areas which can not be seen from the entrance. The instructions to create this map were a little confusing.

Deliverable 4: 3D Line of Site Analysis of the NORAD Entrance
The instructions for creating this map were relatively straight forward, yet I am not sure if I did it correctly! The image is very light, as it has a 50% transparency in order to view the lines of sight.

Week 9: Homeland Security: Preparation Basemap of Colorado Urban Areas

Deliverable 1: Colorado Urban Areas

This is a Colorado Urban Area (COUA) base map which was created to prepare for week 10: protection of critical US infrastructures at NORAD. There are more layers that were added to this basemap, such as hydrography, orthoimagery, and land cover, however, the map would be very confusing if all of them were applied at the same time.
